Google-Samsung Nexus S i9020 Smartphone Announced With Android 2.3 Gingerbread

Google has today officially introduced Android 2.3 Gingerbread, the next version of Android operating system for mobile phones and also announced on this blog entry that the latest version Android 2.3 Gingerbread would debut on Samsung’s upcoming Google’s branded Nexus S smartphone that is based on Samsung’s superstar iPhone killer Android smartphone, the Galaxy S i9000.

The Nexus S i9020 would hit Best Buy stores in US starting December 16, just in time for the holidays and will cost $529 unlocked without a service contract. In addition, with a two-year T-Mobile agreement, it would retail for $199.

The Samsung Nexus S i9020 smartphone is powered by 1 GHz Cortex A8 hummingbird chipset and features 16GB of built-in flash memory, a 4-inch Super AMOLED screen like in Galaxy S and Samsung’s new Contour Display curved glass screen.

Like Galaxy S, Nexus S would also include 5 megapixel rear camera and front-facing 1.3 megapixel camera. Users will be able to make calls through the Internet using Voice over IP (VoIP) technology. The camera is also capable of recording 720p high-definition video at 30 frames per second.

The Galaxy Nexus S powered by latest version of Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform would also includes support for Near Field Communications (NFC) hardware, allowing users to make mobile payments with a wave of their handset. An internal 3D gyroscope will flip the screen as users turn the phone.

The NFC hardware lets you read information from NFC tags. NFC is a fast, versatile short-range wireless technology that can be embedded in all kinds of everyday objects like movie posters, stickers and t-shirts.

Google has co-developed Samsung Nexus S with Android 2.3 with Samsung to ensure tight integration of hardware and software to highlight the latest advancements of the Android platform.
