Dell has today announced a mid-range Android touchscreen handsets, the Dell XCD28 Smartphone which is powered by Android 2.1 OS, sporting 2.8-inch resistive touchscreen and offers 3G functionality for high speed internet access.

Dell has today announced a mid-range Android touchscreen handsets, the Dell XCD28 Smartphone which is powered by Android 2.1 OS, sporting 2.8-inch resistive touchscreen and offers 3G functionality for high speed internet access.

The Dell XCD28 smartphone is actually rebranded version of ZTE Racer smartphone (sold in UK and Europe market) and is competitively priced against similar featured Android smartphones eg. Samsung Galaxy 5 .

The Dell XCD28 is dual-band GSM network ready smartphone that is powered by Qualcomm MSM 7227 600 MHz processor and runs Android 2.1 Eclair operating system that includes built-in Google Android Market access.

For data connectivity, the Dell XCD28 smartphone offers full range of options that includes GPRS, EDGE, 3G HDSPA 7.2Mbps connection, WiFi 802.11b/g wireless LAN, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP wireless connection and microUSB 2.0 port for wired connectivity.

Other features include JAVA MIDP 2.1 support, WAP, Audio player supporting MP4/H.264/H.263 files and video player supporting MP3/WAV/eAAC+ files, Document viewer for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF files and access to Microsoft Email Exchange through Activesync.

Supporting SMS/MMS/EMS the Dell XCD28 Android smartphone also features Email software supporting corporate (Exchange), Gmail, IMAP, POP3, attachment and browser document viewer including Microsoft Office and pdf, HTML email composer.

Measuring 102x54x14.5mm and weighing 100 gms, the phone also offers IM application supporting AOL Instant Messenger, Windows Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger, and Google Talk. In addition, it comes with integrated Google search, Google Maps, Gmail, Google Talk, Google Calendar, and applications for Facebook and Twitter.

The Dell XCD28 smartphone comes with 1100 mAh Li-Ion battery that offers upto 3 hrs of talk time and 200 hrs of standby time on 2G network and would be available for $ 250 and like Dell range of laptops in India, Dell XCD28 comes with one year Advanced Exchange Warranty that assures users with an immediate replacement option if faced with any hardware issue with their Dell smart phone.
